My Studio
There are few more powerful needs in the world than the need for a private place to work and think - a room that can bring comfort to the soul as much as the creative spirit. My studio embodies the moods and ideals that I aspire to.
On the wall is the picture of a mummy cat from the British Museum. This is a reference for a special coffin I would like to make for my cat when he goes to heaven. A postcard of a group of bottle kilns, from Stoke-on-Trent, to remind me of a very useful trip to the Potteries. Also, there are works of potters that I admired such as Scottish potter Steven Bird and British potter Walter Keeler.
I am always interested in artists’ workspaces. On the right is the photo of Antony Gromley's studio and his work-in-progress scattered on the floor. The work spaces of writer Will Self and artist Grayson Perry are to the right outside of this photo.
When I am alone in my studio, I feel inwardly liberated and I let my mind wanders. It is almost as good as looking at clouds.
